FAQs

Session Structure, Cancellations & Make-Up Lessons

How are swim lesson sessions structured?

  • Each session includes 8 weekly lessons, with each lesson lasting 30 minutes.

What happens if the pool is closed?

  • If the pool is closed for any reason, including bank holidays, that week’s lesson will be skipped and will not count toward your 8 lessons.

How do I cancel a lesson?

  • Cancellations must be submitted via email at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a possible fee.

Is there a fee for late cancellations?

  • Yes. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice may incur a $15 cancellation fee.

What happens if the instructor cancels a lesson?

  • Any lesson cancelled by the instructor will be made up by the instructor. Typically, this is done by adding an additional lesson at the same day and time at the end of the session. Instructors will provide notice at the beginning of the session for any known dates they will be unavailable.

Are make-up lessons available?

  • Yes, make-up lessons due to family cancellations are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are only available when cancellations create open spots.

Can make-up lessons be reserved in advance?

  • Make-up lessons are not guaranteed and cannot be reserved in advance unless there is a known cancellation creating an available opening.

How long do I have to complete a make-up lesson?

  • All make-up lessons must be completed within the same session of the missed lesson. Any unused make-up lessons after that time will be forfeited.

General Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Where are the classes located?

Gallatin Civic Center

Are these 1:1 classes?

Yes! All classes are one-on-one.

Will my child have the same instructor each week?

Yes. Your child will be assigned one consistent instructor for the full 8-week session.

Are the classes 8 weeks or 9 weeks?

Classes are 8 weeks long.
Originally, 9 weeks were scheduled to allow for a guaranteed make-up lesson, but this has changed. Make-ups are no longer guaranteed and are only available if another family cancels. I offer 8-week sessions because research shows children typically need at least 8 weeks to show progress in a new skill.

How many sessions do students usually need?

This varies greatly by child. Some children may take several lessons just to get comfortable in the water. For example, I’ve had students who didn’t fully engage for the first 5–6 lessons, but by lesson 8 were comfortable putting their face in the water and performing basic strokes.

Why are classes offered in 8-week sessions?

Sessions are based on instructor availability. I’ve developed a curriculum and am currently hiring additional instructors. I am also a full-time SLP and mom, so while I’d love to teach every session myself, it’s not always possible.

Families on the waitlist are notified first when openings become available.

What is the cost, and how does payment work?

Payment is due at the time of booking. Lesson rates are:

  • Elite instructor: $360

  • Proficient instructor: $330

As the owner and an Elite instructor, I am always available to answer any questions or address concerns to ensure your swimmer has the best experience possible.

What is the difference between elite and proficient instructors?

There are two levels of instruction: Elite and Proficient.

  • Elite instructors have either a degree in a field related to child development or have worked with SplashAbilities for at least four sessions. They bring advanced experience and expertise, particularly in supporting swimmers with diverse learning needs. At this time, Madeline is our online Elite instructor.

  • Proficient instructors are highly skilled and capable instructors who are actively growing their experience to provide safe, effective, and fun swim lessons. They have been personally trained by my and completed my online class.

While I wish I could personally teach every swimmer, it’s important for our team to grow and learn so we can expand access to high-quality swim instruction and water safety for all children, including those with learning differences.

What is the youngest age you recommend for swim lessons?

I have personally taught lessons as young as 4 weeks old (mommy-and-me style). However, not all instructors are trained in infant instruction. Because of that, I generally recommend starting at 2 years old or older.
